⚽ What’s inside this week’s Footy Fix:

  • Tim Howard says the USMNT needs a wake-up call (and maybe a group hug).

  • Tab Ramos thinks youth soccer forgot how to win.

  • Eric Wynalda goes full savage defending promotion/relegation.

  • Kellyn Acosta tries to end the MLS vs Europe beef with common sense.

  • Boston’s NWSL team rebrands after their first name flopped harder than a dive in stoppage time.

  • The U.S. Open Cup finally lands a big-time broadcast deal — bye YouTube, hello CBS.

🔥 Tim Howard is fed up

“This group of players got a manager sacked… To finish fourth is a crime.”

USMNT legend Tim Howard didn’t hold back on Unfiltered Soccer, torching the team for a lifeless Nations League performance. He says the Gold Cup is now must-win — because there are no more competitive games left before the World Cup.

Our Take: Tim’s yelling like it's still 2014, but he’s got a point — this squad is sleepwalking. Might be time for a little healthy panic.

⚠️ Tab Ramos: “It’s not the players. It’s the system.”

“You wouldn’t see the real competitiveness of teams wanting to win…”

Tab Ramos is calling out the entire youth structure of U.S. Soccer. He says there’s too much focus on “playing pretty” and not enough on learning how to win ugly. Slide tackles? Grit? Gone missing.

Our Take: Tab’s résumé speaks volumes — U-20s, senior team, player and coach. If he says it’s a culture issue, we believe him. Somebody bring back the hunger.

📢 Wynalda vs. Pro/Rel Doubters

“Okay, first of all, you’re a f*cking idiot.”

Eric Wynalda, in full “I’m-not-holding-back” mode on Unleashed, defended promotion/relegation and shredded the idea that U.S. soccer doesn’t need it. Having experienced relegation himself, he says it made clubs better — and MLS's trophy chase just doesn’t compare.

Our Take: Classic Wynalda. You don’t have to agree with him, but you can’t say he hasn’t lived it. USL’s pro/rel rollout is coming… and he’s here for the chaos.

⚖️ Acosta on MLS vs Europe: “Pick the best players, period.”

“It’s not a competition between Europe and MLS… It’s about selecting the right group of players.”

Kellyn Acosta says the league shouldn’t matter — form does. He praised the likes of Diego Luna and Zack Steffen and backed Pochettino’s inclusive call-ups.

Our Take: Finally, some sanity. Just pick the guys who are cooking. Acosta wants back in the national team — and if he balls out in Chicago, who’s to say he won’t?

🆕 Boston’s NWSL Team Gets a (Better) Name

Boston NWSL ditched the meme-worthy “Bos Nation FC” and rebranded to Boston Legacy FC — a safer, more sentimental pick focused on pride, passion, and winning.

“In Boston, history isn’t just remembered. It’s made.”

Our Take: Not flashy, not cringe — just fine. It’s the “plain bagel” of names. But hey, fans seem to like it, and that’s what matters.

📺 CBS Sports picks up the U.S. Open Cup

Big move for the oldest soccer tournament in America — the U.S. Open Cup is now with CBS Sports and Paramount+, starting April 15. Games will air from the Third Round to the Final, with select matches on Golazo Network and CBS Sports Network.

“This is an incredible step forward…” — David Wright, U.S. Soccer COO

Our Take: RIP free YouTube streams, but CBS brings quality. If this boosts visibility and lines the pockets of lower-league clubs? Big win.
